Ed Turner (Born March 30, 1991) is an American professional fake baseball right-handed Pitcher for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays of Major League Redditball

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Turner was born in Why, Arizona to Amanda Hugginkiss and Oliver Closof, the local double entendre fanatics. Ed was originally named Drew Peacock before he was taken away by Child Services stating, "There is no way he would survive middle school with that name" He was adopted by Timmy and Tammy Turner, who renamed him Ed. After graduating high school, Turner bounced around the country working odd jobs and playing in various independent leagues before trying out for the MLR

Early Career[edit | edit source]

Turner declared his eligibility a week before the 2017 MLR Expansion Draft and was promptly placed on the Goldies for the Showcase Series. Ed caught the eye of a few scouts as a potential sleeper pick after pitching two shutout innings and striking out three batters during his sole appearance in the Showcase Series. Turner's finesse pitching style caught the attention of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and drafted by them in the third round. Turner was the twenty sixth overall pick during the draft. In spring training, he beat out Dougie McElroy for the starting job.

2017-2018 Season[edit | edit source]

Session 1

Turner started off well in his first MLR start. Facing the Toronto Blue Jays, Turner allowed one run on four hits and a walk in four innings, while striking out one and receiving the no decision. His only major blemish was an RBI double by Sven Jorgenson that scored Mike Honcho.

Session 2

Turner was solid again in his second start against the Baltimore Orioles In four innings of work, Turner allowed one run on three hits and a walk, striking out four in the process. Turner faced some difficulty in the second inning, giving up back to back doubles to Sam Smith and Bernie Petrol. The record long eighth inning game led Turner to receive another no decision in a Devil Rays victory

Session 3

Turner faced some difficulty and pitched his worst game in his short career against the Cleveland Indians. In three innings of work, Turner walked three batters, gave up three solo home runs, and only struck out two batters. The second inning proved to be difficult for Turner again as he allowed homers to G.H. Morello, Norwood McKenzie, and Jim Boehiem with McKenzie and Boehiem's homers being back to back. Turner was ejected in the fourth inning after instigating a brawl when he hit Morello with a fastball after he was rather verbose while running the bases during his homer. Thankfully, Turner's actions did not preclude a Devil Rays victory, as they scored nine runs during the third and fourth innings

Session 4

Turner was in top form and pitched a gem for the record books. Turner pitched a complete game shutout, striking out three and only allowing two hits and one walk. Turner also set the MLR record for least batters faced in a complete game, facing only 19 batters, one more than the minimum. Turner received Player of Game honors for his spectacular performance
