Gilroy "Gil" Metz (born ???) is an American professional fake baseball second baseman for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Redditball. He was drafted by the Atlanta Braves, and traded after Session 6 of the 2017 season to the Phillies in a 6-team trade.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Gil Metz is often rumored to be plagued by a severe alcohol addiction, something he denies often. He's been reported as drunk in Old City, Philadelphia more than once. Metz has a good relationship with Phillies general manager J.A. Bird, a friendship forged before his trade to Philadelphia. Some have pointed at this as a reason for his trade.
2017 Season[edit | edit source]
Metz finished the 2017 season with 4 hits and 7 strikeouts, the latter seen as a serious issue in his game. The Phillies strikeout count practically doubled with the inclusion of him, Miguel Snow, and Obiwan Canoli in the team. Despite his second base status, he often platooned first base with Lefty Schweez, his native position more-than-not started by Kyle Mack.
2017/18 season[edit | edit source]
On the advent of a new season, Metz continued to struggle in a Phillies uniform. He collected no hits in the first two games. In Session 3 of the 2017/18 season, he started at second base for the first time in his Phillies fake baseball career, though Mack still started, being moved to shortstop.
Following this game, Metz was traded to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for third baseman Jamison Wells.
