Johnny Hopkins (born 1876) is an American professional fake baseball third baseman for the Minnesota Twins of Major League Redditball. Drafted with the 40th overall pick in the fourth round of the Inaugural MLR Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates, Hopkins looked to make an immediate impact for the team that took a chance on him. A 3-run home run for his first career plate appearance appeared to do just that. With high expectations following that debut, Hopkins found them difficult to live up to. While still an excellent bet to get on base whenever approaching the plate, the extra-base power displayed in Session 1 appeared to be a flash in the pan. By his own suggestion, Hopkins moved toward the top of the lineup in order to set up his teammates for more scoring opportunities late in the season.
2017 Season[edit | edit source]
Starting the season batting in the 5th spot, Hopkins made Sal Shark pay with a 3-run home run in the first inning. With the game tied 3-3 in the fifth inning, an RBI single would be all that was needed to seal a Pirates victory in Session 1.
The next two sessions would be against the Toronto Blue Jays, where Hopkins was held hitless and only drawing a single walk.
Session 4 against the New York Mets would prove to be a return to form, wherein Hopkins recorded a walk, single, and double. While not driving in any runs, he would score two in a 4-1 victory.
Session 5 against the Houston Astros, also known as "The Neverending Scorey", saw our hero strike out for the first time in his career. Obviously distraught at such a shocking development, he buckled down and drove in the fifth and final run of the fourth inning.
Session 6 against the Washington Nationals would see the Pirates down by an insurmountable amount in just the first inning. Hopkins, however, did his part and drove in two in a beautiful fashion.
Following the announcement of a prematurely ending season and no hope for a playoff berth, Session 7 against the Baltimore Orioles was simply another chance to pad the stats in an excellent season. Collecting his third extra base hit of the season, Hopkins drove in a run and later collected a walk for his final plate appearance of the season.
The hard work put in all season paid dividends, as Hopkins won the NL Silver Slugger for 3B and placed 6th in NL MVP voting.
