The Philadelphia Phillies are an American professional fake baseball franchise based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They are in Major League Redditball's National League, and are one of the twelve Inaugural teams in the league. They were created by league founder and commissioner J.A. Bird. In 2017, the Phillies won the first ever Paper Cup.
2017 season[edit | edit source]
The Philadelphia Phillies were the first team announced for the Inaugural lineup, helmed by the league creator J.A. Bird. In the 2017 Inaugural Draft, the Phillies selected Kyle Mack with their first pick, 10th overall. Mack was a contact righty, considered once to be a third or second round pickup, that quickly rose through the draft rankings. With their second pick, the team selected strikeout pitcher Cy Hadd, who became their Opening Day starter.
In Session 1 of the 2017 season, the Phillies beat the Minnesota Twins, who were considered the draft winners, due to a strong performance on both sides of the game by pitcher Cy Hadd, by a score of 3-2. Hadd would be named the Player of the Game. In game 2 they received their first franchise loss behind the Kansas City Royals, a game that saw the debut of righty pitcher and Japanese free agent Oliver Yu. It was a 4-2 loss.
The team's third game would see a great surge in their standing, however, as the offense dominated the Baltimore Orioles. The team scored 9 runs against the O's, a record at the time, behind a Ross Fire grand slam. Their fourth game was against the undefeated 3-0 Tigers, considered the second best team in the MLR. It was a thriller until the end, led by dominate pitching from the highly-acclaimed Big Tuna and the fledging Oliver Yu. The Phillies would walk off in the bottom of the 6th for their third win, off the bat of 1st rounder pick Kyle Mack.
